A number of Pennsylvania College of Technology faculty and staff recently have been in the news for a variety of accomplishments.
James T. Gugino, video engineer/editor, worked as a camera operator with World Sports Enterprises during the recent Pennsylvania 400 and ARCA 200 NASCAR races at Pocono International Raceway. Gugino also provided technical support for in-car cameras. His expertise was utilized for four races over two weekends; footage of the races was aired nationally. Gugino enlisted the assistance of three Penn College students enrolled in the automotive technology/Ford ASSET major. Working as members of the "wireless crew," which supports the race announcers and the moving cameras in the pits, were Dennis L. Ritchey, of Belleville; Tom Pattinson, of Warminster; and Kevin M. Wirt, of Etters.
William "Scott" Welch, instructor of heavy equipment technology, volunteered his expertise recently in Ghana, Africa, where the Ghana Bible College is building a new campus. Welch repaired a Caterpillar motorgrader for the project and provided technical assistance with blueprints and site design/development. He traveled to Ghana with pastors of two local churches and a local carpenter.
Regis C. Kohler, associate professor of radiography, was recently recognized in "Who's Who Among American Teachers 1998" and elected to serve a three-year term on the board for the Pennsylvania Society of Radiologic Technologists.
Karen C. Martin, assistant professor of nursing, was inducted as a member of Sigma Theta Tau International honor society for nursing.
Dr. David L. Evans, associate professor of biology, has been named to the editorial board of the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society, the major professional society for teachers of anatomy and physiology in higher education.
