Penn College Librarian Recertified as Professional Archivist

The employee who serves as steward of Pennsylvania College of Technology's institutional history has been recertified by an independent, nonprofit organization of professional archivists.
Patricia A. Scott, librarian and archivist in the college's Madigan Library, was granted recertification by the Academy of Certified Archivists. She has been a member of the academy since 2003; her other memberships include the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference and the Archives and Special Collections Interest Group of the Associated Libraries of Central Pennsylvania.
To maintain certification, archivists must reapply every five years by taking a written exam or submitting a portfolio of professional activities. Certification ensures that an archivist meets standards in selection, appraisal and acquisition; arrangement and description; reference services and access; preservation and protection; outreach, advocacy and promotion; managing archival programs; and professional, ethical and legal responsibilities.
In addition to overseeing the archives, Scott is a reference librarian and coordinates the selection of materials and teaches information-literacy sessions for graphic communications, graphic design, and courses in the arts and humanities.
An alumna of Williamsport Area Community College (Penn College's immediate predecessor), she received a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts from The Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Science in Library Science from Clarion University. Before joining the Penn College faculty, she worked in libraries at Bucknell University and Penn State.
