Penn College Lacrosse Wins Two for First-Ever National Ranking

The Penn College Lacrosse Club took a road trip to Moravian College this past weekend for its first games in a month, coming home with a national ranking – No. 21 – for the first time in the team's history. The opponents were Penn State Berks in the first game and No. 13 Moravian in the second.
The following recap was provided by coach Lou Allen:
Penn State Berks came out of the gates quickly, scoring the first goal of the game. But some stellar saves by goalie Christopher J. Stivala and a stifling defense led by Drew Baugus, Mike Betz and Mike McCrary did not allow a second goal until two minutes left in the game.
Jeff Bassler contributed admirably on defense, along with Alex Roese. The offense, led by Evan Aiegeldinger’s four goals, played well. One of those goals was assisted by Stivala, whose 60-yard rope of a pass hit Aiegeldinger, who put it in the net behind a surprised Berks goalie. Rounding out the scoring were Nick Judge and Andrew Zimmer, each contributing a goal, Rafael Correa with one goal and one assist, and Derrike Kulp with an assist.
The entire team beat Berks to ground balls and everyone got to play in a well-deserved 7-2 win.
The second game against Moravian was a tight one.
The Wildcats scored with a few seconds left at the end of the first half to take a 3-1 lead, but, late in the fourth quarter, Moravian scored a goal and tied the game at 4-4. Moravian won the faceoff at the start of overtime, but a good save by Stivala got the ball back for the Wildcats. Anthony Gobbi got the ball at the top of the box and made a perfect pass to Correa, breaking around the right side of the goal. Correa fired the shot past the Moravian goalie for a Wildcat 5-4 OT win. It was Correa’s second goal of the game; others were scored by Zimmer, Judge and Sam Dalley. Kulp, Aiegeldinger and Correa also picked up assists.
The defense played well as Giuseppe Deluca was given the assignment of shutting down Moravian's best player, whom he limited to two goals.
For the fruits of their labor, the Penn College Men’s Lacrosse Club became nationally ranked for the first time in the team’s history.
It does not get any easier: The Wildcats this weekend plays No. 25 Bloomsburg, tries to avenge last’s year worst lost against Dickinson College and takes on a tough York College in a third game.
