Penn College Inducts Eight in Inaugural Athletic Hall of Fame Class

Pennsylvania College of Technology inducted eight former athletes, coaches and administrators into its inaugural Athletic Hall of Fame during an induction ceremony Saturday night.

"It was a great night for our athletic program," said Scott Kennell, director of athletics. "We've had a strong athletic tradition throughout our history as both the Williamsport Area Community College and Penn College. Tonight was the first of many nights to showcase that talent and show our appreciation for what our inductees have and will continue to do for this institution."

The ceremony was held on campus in the Mountain Laurel Room of the Thompson Professional Development Center.

The  inductees are Max Wasson, of Turbotville; Mike Stanzione, of Williamsport; the late Chet Schuman, of Turbotville; Chad Karstetter (Penn College Class of 1999), of Mill Hall; Brian Parker ('99), of Millville; Steven Craig ('98), of Hughesville; Bobby String ('00), of Manheim; and Katlyn (Stupar) Albitz ('06), of State College.

The class of 2012:

Max Wasson was the head coach of the wrestling program for the Williamsport Area Community College from 1970-82.  In those 13 years, his teams amassed an impressive 95-39-1 (.710) record and captured eight Eastern Pennsylvania Community College Athletic Conference championships.

Mike Stanzione served as the first director of athletics for Penn College, starting in 1991. Over the next 17 years, he built the program to 13 varsity intercollegiate sports while serving as the head coach for baseball for 13 years. As baseball coach, his teams won five conference championships and he was a five-time Coach of the Year.

Chet Schuman coached the Penn College golf team for nine years (2000-08). During that time, his teams put together a 155-match unbeaten streak and captured six straight conference titles (2003-08). He also coached three Penn State University Athletic Conference individual champions.

Chad Karstetter ('99), Brian Parker ('99) and Steven Craig ('98) were the first Penn College student-athletes to capture a national championship, winning the men's compound national competition in 1998. All three were named All-Americans and helped start a tradition of excellence by Penn College archery.

Bobby String ('00) was a two-year letter winner for Penn College men's basketball program and scored 1,022 points to become the first male player to top the 1,000-point career scoring mark.

Katlyn (Stupar) Albitz ('06) was a two-year letter winner for Penn College women's basketball. She is the college's most prolific women's scorer and a two-time all-conference selection. In 2005-06, she led the team to the only conference championship in women's basketball history.
