Penn College Individual Athletes Honored

Twenty-nine Pennsylvania College of Technology athletes have received special individual honors thus far during the 2012-13 school year.
Through the fall sports seasons and the month of December, 17 Wildcats have received Athlete of the Week honors, as voted on by the college’s athletic staff. They are: Caitlyn Curley, Middletown, women’s volleyball, Aug. 27; Reda Vermilya, Turbotville, women’s soccer, Sept. 3; Daniel Starr, Stewartstown, golf, Sept. 10; Christopher Brennan, New Hope, men’s soccer, Sept. 17; Jordan Rodgers, Biglerville, tennis, Sept. 24; Courtney Gernert, Palmyra, women’s volleyball, Oct. 1; Tarik Laroche, Milton, men’s soccer, Oct. 7; Jesse Newman, Waterfall, golf, Oct. 15; Christopher Morrin, Morrisville, tennis, Oct. 22; Tara Powell, Burgettstown, women’s volleyball, Oct. 31; Benjamin Shade, Fleetwood, men’s soccer, Nov. 5; Tyler Myers, Centre Hall, wrestling, Nov. 12; Mackenzie Brown, Lititz, women’s basketball, Nov. 19; Kierstin Steer, South Williamsport, women’s basketball, Nov. 26; Jenna Matzinger, Coudersport, women’s basketball, Dec. 3; Jasper Ocker III, Burnham, wrestling, Dec. 10; and Colton Acorn, Wellsboro, men’s basketball, Dec. 17.
During the fall semester, 14 Penn College student-athletes received United States Collegiate Athletic Association All-Academic honors for achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. They are: Christian Dressler, Mifflintown; David Munn, Athens; and Shade in men’s soccer; Elizabeth Greis, Pottsville; Sara Larson, South Williamsport; Cassandra Mohr, Lewistown; Haley Richter, of Selkirk, N.Y.; Shelby Straub, South Williamsport; Tiffany Turgeon, Hooversville; Kerry Weber, of Saylorsburg; and Catherine Wise, Mechanicsburg, in women’s soccer; and Gernert; Kelly Hebert, Wellsboro; and Rachel Heller, Allison Park, in women’s volleyball.
Penn State University Athletic Conference fall semester All-Academic honors will be announced later.
Through the fall sports season, Penn College tops the PSUAC Chancellor’s Cup standings with 41 points. Penn State Brandywine is second with 28 points. The cup is awarded to a member institution with the most accumulated points for the year. Points are awarded based on the finish of each conference team. Penn College is the only school to have won the award since its inception in 2009.
Also through the fall sports season, Penn College is ranked sixth in the USCAA Director’s Cup standings with 235 points and is the only PSUAC school in the top 10. Daemen College, in Amhurst, N.Y., tops the list with 468 points. Much like the Chancellor’s Cup, the Director’s Cup is awarded to a member institution with the most accumulated points for the year.
