Penn College Hosts Career Day for 600 Junior High Students

Approximately 600 seventh- to ninth-graders from 12 school districts visited Pennsylvania College of Technology's campuses on March 12 to learn about careers through hands-on activities and tours.
Among the activities available for groups on the main campus were creating video games, operating robots, practicing emergency medical skills, using television studio equipment and taking X-rays.
Workshops were also offered at the college's Earth Science Center campus near Allenwood, where students designed their own landscape plans, created maps using mapping and GPS software, made corsages, and performed diesel-engine diagnostics from a laptop computer.
At the college's Lumley Aviation Center at the Williamsport Regional Airport in Montoursville, hands-on activities included precision measurement of aircraft weight and balance, hydraulics demonstrations, and remote-control aircraft demonstrations.
More than 50 Penn College faculty and staff participated, providing demonstrations and lectures for the visiting students. Penn College students also participated in the activities.
Penn College's Outreach for K-12 Office organizes Career Day each spring for students in grades 7-9. A Career Day for high school students is scheduled for Oct. 19.
