Penn College Hoops Teams End Week With Split

Pennsylvania College of Technology basketball teams split at home Saturday against Penn State Wilkes-Barre to conclude their week.
Men's Basketball
Thirty-nine turnovers were too much to overcome for the Wildcats in a 78-54 nonconference home game Monday against Berkeley (N.J.) College. Marquis Delgado, of Mansfield, led Penn College with 15 points – his third straight game in double figures – while Nathaniel Brown, of Philadelphia, scored 12 points.
Back in conference play, poor shooting in the first half took a toll at Penn State Hazleton on Thursday as Penn College dropped a 72-65 decision. Thomas Ross, of Williamsport, scored 18 points and James Boylan, of Newton, added 12.
Against Penn State Wilkes-Barre on Saturday, the Wildcats fell to 1-13 overall and 1-5 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference following a 73-41 loss. Ross led Penn College with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Women’s Basketball
In action Monday against Wells College in Aurora, N.Y., Penn College dropped an 83-54 nonconference decision. Charese Bova, of Beech Creek, scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Wildcats and Alicia Ross, of Williamsport, scored 11 points. Sophomore Jamie Steer, of South Williamsport, last year’s leading scorer, scored eight points in her season debut.
On Thursday at Penn State Hazleton, Ross had a big second half, scoring all 18 of her points, but Penn College fell, 72-47. Bova led the Wildcats in rebounds with eight.
Getting back on the winning track, Steer broke out with 15 points and Margaret Dewire, of Beaver Springs, added 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds as Penn College ended a four-game losing streak with a 57-41 victory over Penn State Wilkes-Barre. The Wildcats now are 3-12 overall and 2-4 in the PSUAC.
Wrestling
The only match scheduled for the period of Jan. 12-18, at home with Penn State Greater Allegheny on Wednesday, was postponed, but freshman Troy Leid, of Terre Hill, was named the United States Collegiate Athletic Association and Penn State University Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week for the period ending Jan. 12.
Archery
It was announced last week that, after a two-year “retirement," Chad Karstetter is returning as the college’s archery coach. A decorated archer for the program in the late 1990s, Karstetter coached the Wildcats from 2001-2011, leading them to national prominence. In addition, he coached 33 All-Americans and was named the U.S. Collegiate Archery National Coach of the Year in 2011. He was inducted into the Penn College Athletics Hall of Fame in 2012.
