Penn College grapplers continue to find success

While early-season woes continued for the Pennsylvania College of Technology men’s and women’s basketball teams, the college’s wrestlers continued to find success.
Wrestling
Competing on Friday and Saturday at the Messiah College Petrofes Invitational, the Wildcats finished ninth in a 15-team field with 68.5 points. Mount Union took the team title with 218 points. Leading Penn College with fourth-place finishes were Jared Mooney, of Palmerton, who went 3-2 with three falls in the 197-pound weight class, and Dylan Otis, of Wyalusing, who went 3-2 in his bouts at 285. Also for the Wildcats, Dylan Gettys, of Etters, went 4-3 and finished sixth at 175; Dan Bergeron, of Jackson, New Jersey, went 3-2 and finished seventh at 165; and Jon Pineda, of Easton, went 4-2 and finished seventh at 285.
Men's basketball
Hosting crosstown rival Lycoming College on Monday, Penn College erased a 10-point, 47-37, halftime deficit and took a 66-62 lead with 9:06 remaining before being outscored 27-9 the rest of the way in an 89-75 loss. Spencer Bartron, of Camden, Delaware, topped the Wildcats with 15 points; Ryan Lockman, of White Salmon, Washington, tallied 14 points; Ben Sosa, of Loyalsock Township, scored 13 points; and Cameron Gloster, of Pittsburgh, added 11 points. Lockman also had 10 rebounds.
Stepping into North Eastern Athletic Conference play for the first time on Wednesday, the Wildcats lost at unbeaten College of St. Elizabeth, 87-57. Bartron led Penn College with 11 points and Lockman added 10 points.
On Saturday at Penn State Abington, Penn College lost, 94-74, to drop to 0-7 overall and 0-2 in the NEAC. Five Wildcats scored in double figures, led by Imari Walker, of Pittsburgh, with 17 points and Lockman with 16 points. Penn College was outscored 40-16 in the paint.
In North Eastern Athletic Conference action this week: Host Penn State Berks (0-9 overall, 0-2 NEAC through Sunday), 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Last meeting vs. Penn State Berks: Won 90-83 on Feb. 4.
Statistically speaking: Lockman is 17th in the NEAC averaging 15.1 points per game, Sosa is 19th at 14.1 per game. Lockman is 11th in the conference with 6.9 rebounds per game.

In its NEAC season opener on Wednesday at College of St. Elizabeth, Penn College lost, 63-51. Kaylah Brown, of Suffolk, Virginia, topped the Wildcats with 11 points. Tori Wolfe, of Dalmatia, had 10 rebounds.
At Penn State Abington on Saturday, the Wildcats fell, 82-71, to drop to 0-6 overall and 0-2 in the conference. Brown led Penn College with 20 points and Kuhns chipped in with 17 points.
