Penn College Garners Awards for Marketing Efforts

Pennsylvania College of Technology was honored recently with six awards in national competitions for marketing.

The College received four awards from Admissions Marketing Report, the national newspaper of admissions marketing, and two more from the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations, the only organization in the nation devoted exclusively to marketing and public relations in community, junior and technical colleges.

In the Admissions Marketing Report competition, Penn College’s quarterly magazine, One College Avenue, received a Bronze Award in the newsletter competition for schools with 5,000 to 9,999 students. The campus poster, featuring a montage of campus buildings, received a Merit Award in the poster category. Both of the College’s television series “Penn College & You” and “You’re the Chef” received Merit Awards in the Television Advertising/Series competition.

In the NCMPR District 1 Medallion Awards competition for 1999, Penn College received a Bronze Award in the Brochure/Flyer category for work on its “Distinctive Majors” brochure/poster format, which included brochures for the Medical Radiography, Floral Design/Interior Plantscape, Construction Management and Heavy Equipment/Diesel programs.

The College won a Silver Paragon Award from NCMPR in the College Video Program category. The award was received for an Information Technology episode of “Penn College & You,” the College’s public affairs television series that airs in about 2 million homes in Pennsylvania and New York via local cable systems.

The Information Technology episode, which aired last spring, featured interviews with faculty and a visit with a Penn College graduate working as a junior network analyst for the City of Philadelphia. The episode was written and produced by Tom Speicher, the College’s broadcast media specialist. Bruce Huffman, videographer/producer for the College, directed, did all the videography and edited the episode.

“It is an honor to be recognized nationally for such a diverse assortment of work, from our television series, to an art poster featuring beautiful aspects of our campus, to general purpose recruitment materials,” said Elaine Lambert, director of College Information & Community Relations. “The awards are a tribute to the talents of our College staff who create these products.”
