While the winter sports seasons continue for Pennsylvania College of Technology basketball and wrestling teams, action for the college’s spring esports teams is just beginning.

The iRacing season, with Austin DeLong, of Pittsburgh, behind the “wheel,” is underway with teams in Overwatch, League of Legends, Rocket League, Valorant and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) set to step into NACE Starleague action.
“I am looking forward to the spring seasons for my players. We should have some good competition within the NACE Starleague as players have been working towards leveling the gameplay between schools,” coach Joshua Young said.
“We had a ton of interest in CS:GO, so we started up a team for the spring and look forward to see how they fare against other schools,” Young added.
Competing for the Wildcats will be:
CS:GO – Zack Walsh, of Palmyra; Drew Thomas, of State College; Caleb Diehl, of New Enterprise; Ethan Stump, of Schuylkill Haven; and Joe Hartland, of Pennsdale.

Men’s basketball
In a United East makeup game at Lancaster Bible College on Monday, Penn College fell behind by 39 points at the half and lost, 94-51, to drop to 2-10 overall and 2-3 in the conference. Penn College’s only lead came during the first minute, 3-2, on a 3-pointer by Corey Blackwell, of Hammonton, New Jersey, before the Chargers went on a 25-2 run and opened a 54-15 lead at the half. Lancaster Bible continued to pull away in the second half, going ahead by 45 points twice, the last time at 94-49 with 1:07 to play. Gavin Barrett, of Roselle, New Jersey, led Penn College with 13 points and six rebounds, while David Brown, of Bridgeport, Connecticut, scored 10 points.
At Wells College in a UE game on Wednesday, Penn College dropped a 92-75 decision to fall to 2-11 overall and 2-4 in the conference. The Wildcats led by 11 points twice in the first half before Wells used a 16-4 run to retake the lead and led 45-34 at the half. Wells opened its largest lead of 21 at 92-71 with 1:07 to play. Blackwell led Penn College scorers with 22 points, while Chris Coyne, of Glen Mills, scored 15 points and pulled down a team-high 13 rebounds, and Barrett scored 11 points and handed out 11 assists.
Hosting Morrisville State College on Saturday in United East action, Penn College won, 78-72. After the game’s last tie at 66-all, the Wildcats closed strong, outscoring the Mustangs, 12-6, to improve to 3-11 overall and 3-4 in the conference. For the game, Penn College outscored Morrisville 42-12 in the paint. James Ross, of Williamsport, finished with 22 points to lead four Wildcat players scoring in double figures and Barrett scored 17 while handing out nine assists. Coyne led Penn College with nine rebounds.

Propelled by a 38-8 first quarter, the Penn College women rolled to a 77-33 UE win Wednesday at Wells College. The Wildcats improved to 2-11 overall and 2-4 in the conference. Kayleigh Miller, of Sayre, led Penn College with 14 points, while Aubrey Stetts, of Jersey Shore, and Rachel Teats, of Middleburg, each scored 12 points. Ja’Quela Dyer, of Dover, Delaware, snared 11 rebounds and Cassi Kuhns, of Loyalsock Township, hauled in 10 boards. Penn College shot 46% from the field (32 of 70) to 25% for Wells (15 of 59) and the Wildcats shot 40% (8 of 20) from 3-point range to Wells’ 22% (2 of 9).

The Mustangs scored 22 points off 23 Penn College turnovers and outscored Penn College in the paint, 32-20.
