Penn College Chef to Compete in PA Pork Producers Competition

Chef Richard J. McGlynn III, a member of the professional staff in Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Le Jeune Chef Restaurant, is set to compete against seven other Pennsylvania chefs at the 2016 Taste of Elegance. The event is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Pork Producers Council.

McGlynn, who earned a bachelor’s degree in culinary arts and systems from Penn College in 2013, is a sous chef in the college’s casual fine-dining restaurant. The facility serves as a learning lab for students in the college’s hospitality majors.

On Oct. 24, the Drums native and Williamsport resident will showcase his skills and creativity as he prepares a plated pork entrée for judges. Following blind judging, the contestants will provide samples of their dishes during a reception for the public. Kassandra S. Sellinger, a Penn College culinary arts and systems student from Linden, will serve as McGlynn’s assistant for the evening.

The top three place winners of the Taste of Elegance chefs competition receive cash prizes. The first-place winner will provide a demonstration on the Culinary Connections stage during the 2017 Pennsylvania Farm Show’s “Pork Day,” Friday, Jan. 13, and join Taste of Elegance winners from other regions across the U.S. at the National Pork Board’s Pork Summit, an exclusive educational weekend at the Culinary Institute of America’s Greystone Campus in St. Helena, California.

The Taste of Elegance event will be held at Musikfest Café in Bethlehem. Proceeds will benefit ArtsQuest, a nonprofit organization that provides access to art, culture and educational programs for residents of the Lehigh Valley. Tickets for the Taste of Elegance reception are available.
