Penn College Bowlers Have Mixed Results in EPCC Tournament

Pennsylvania College of Technology bowlers had some unexpected results in the Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference tournament Feb. 15. A team expected to excel didn't and one not expected to did.
Penn College's women's team of Lisa Ulrich (Wyalusing), Marly Artley (Milton) and Erika Banzhaf (Williamsport), competing in the Gold Division, came from 79 pins down in the third game to finish first.
The favored Wildcat men's Blue Division squad of Andrew Hurst (West York), Brandon Hendricks (Sunbury) and Tim McMahon (Williamsport) lost to Penn State Scranton, however, and wound up third.
Also for Penn College, the men's team of Ben Zech (West York), Steve Eckman (Williamsport) and Andrew Parsons (Islip, N.Y.) captured the White Division, while the Penn College men's team of Allen Williams (Williamsport), Stephen Frueh (Plum) and Joe Ianaro (Clearfield) placed second in the White Division.
"Going into the tournament, the three young men in the Blue Division went in as the favorites and they didn't bowl as well as they usually do and Penn State Scranton bowled pretty well and took first," said Lisa Worth, Penn College coach. "Sometimes, the better team doesn't always win. Whoever gets hot gets hot."
The other men's teams met Worth's earlier expectations, but the women exceeded all expectations.
"The three of them (women) may have bowled the best they bowled all year. Going into the third game, we were 79 pins behind and came back to win by 27 pins. It was a great day for them," Worth said. "It was exciting for them, and for me, as well."
Also at the tournament, held at the Pine Summit Lanes in Pine Summit, Wildcat bowlers were honored for their regular-season accomplishments, which included the No. 1 men's team finishing first, the coed team finishing second and the No. 2 men's team finishing third. Hendricks received a special award for his 756 series during the regular season.
The season ends March 4-5, when Penn College hosts the Pennsylvania Collegiate Athletic Conference championships at Faxon Lanes in Loyalsock Township.
