William D. Davis, a member of the Pennsylvania College of Technology Board of Directors since its inception in 1989, has announced his resignation from the board, effective March 1.

Davis, the board's vice chairman, informed Penn College President Dr. Davie Jane Gilmour that he wants to devote more time to other endeavors. He retired from the banking industry in 1993.

Appointed on July 3, 1989, Davis was an original member of the board, which was established when the College, previously known as Williamsport Area Community College, became a special mission affiliate of The Pennsylvania State University.

The Corporation for Penn State, which selects directors to serve on the Penn College Board, will meet later this month to select a new member in accordance with the College's bylaws. The bylaws require that three members of the local community serve on the board.

Davis' seat will remain vacant until the June 17 board meeting. At that session, the board also will elect its officers for 2004-05.

"Bill Davis has served with distinction on the Penn College Board of Directors since its formation in 1989," Dr. Gilmour said. "During his tenure, the College campus has expanded, excellent new educational facilities have been constructed, and enrollment has grown steadily. We wish to thank Bill for his exemplary service and long-standing devotion to the College."
