Pennsylvania College of Technology men’s and women’s basketball teams each tasted victory over the past week and the wrestling squad, in actual individual matches wrestled, showed some strength, too.

Men’s Basketball
A poor finish proved costly Monday as Penn College, which led by six at the half and was up by one with just under eight minutes to play, was outscored 17-2 down the stretch and suffered an 83-69 loss to Penn State Lehigh Valley. Jerome Edwards, of Philadelphia, led the Wildcats with 15 points and Thomas Ross, of Williamsport, scored 11. Ezra Adams, of Muncy, hauled in 12 rebounds.

On Wednesday, the Wildcats put everything together in a 95-74 win over NCAA Division III Alfred (N.Y.) State College, and, in the process, snapped a 10-game loss string. Ross finished with 16 points for Penn College while James Boylan, of Newton, N.J., added 14; Nathaniel Brown, of Philadelphia, scored 11; and Marquis Delgado, of Mansfield, tallied 10. The Wildcats dominated the boards, 53-35, with Boylan pulling down eight rebounds.

Returning to the court on Thursday, Penn College again battled tough, but dropped a 95-91 decision to Penn State Scranton. Delgado finished with 21 points; Boylan, 12; Ross, 11; and Laquinn Thompson, of York, 10 for the Wildcats. Scranton’s Dequan Jackson, of Philadelphia, led all scorers with 43 points. For the second time in a week, Adams grabbed 12 rebounds.

Rounding out the week on Saturday against Penn State New Kensington, Penn College lost, 82-68, to drop to 2-19 overall and 1-11 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference. Boylan scored a career-high 22 points for the Wildcats and added 12 rebounds and four blocks. Penn College now falls to 2-19 overall and 1-11 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.

Women’s Basketball
For the fourth time in her career, and first time this season, sophomore Jamie Steer, of South Williamsport, topped the 30-point single-game scoring mark with a 34-point effort as the Wildcats stopped Central Penn College, 88-66, on Monday. Also for Penn College, Charese Bova, of Beech Creek, added 12 points and 13 rebounds while Danielle Mowery, of Shamokin, scored 10 points and dished off seven assists.

On Thursday against Penn State Scranton, Bova scored 21 points and hauled in 18 rebounds, but a poor first half proved costly as the Lady Wildcats lost, 77-61. Also for Penn College, Alicia Ross, of Williamsport, scored 13 points and Steer added 11 points and 12 rebounds. Penn College now is 5-15 overall and 3-7 in the PSUAC.

Wrestling
In individual matches wrestled, Penn College outscored Alfred State College, 18-17, on Tuesday. But three Wildcat forfeits gave the match to the New Yorkers, 35-18. Recording pins for Penn College were Aaron Doll, of Glen Rock, in the 133-pound weight class, and Kyle Sunseri, of Athens, at 149. Troy Leid, of Terre Hill, at 157, and Joe Champluvier, of Laceyville, at 174, won by decision for the Wildcats as they dropped to 1-8 overall.

A scheduled Jan. 26 match at Penn State Beaver was postponed and Tuesday’s match with Penn State New Kensington was canceled. On Sunday, Feb. 9, the Wildcats compete in the PSUAC Championships at Penn State.
