Pennsylvania College of Technology’s dedication to veterans has earned the institution “Military Friendly” status for the eighth consecutive year.

Victory Media, a veteran-owned business that compiles data-driven ratings to assist service members in choosing post-military education and career pursuits, named Penn College a 2017 Military Friendly School.

The designation is awarded to the top colleges, universities, community colleges and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace military students by dedicating resources to ensure success in the classroom and postgraduation.

“Veterans are an integral part of our student body,” said Chester M. Beaver, the college’s veterans affairs coordinator. “We take great pride in our dedication to the needs of veterans. Providing them with excellent resources to enhance their academic and career pursuits is the least we can do for their service to the country.”

Penn College again attains "Military Friendly" statusPenn College has 367 veteran students enrolled for the Fall 2016 semester.

Services and benefits available to veterans at the college include: designated point of contact for counseling needs and career services, separate student processing procedure with the assistance of veterans, in-state tuition cost, waiver of tuition deposit, outreach program for veteran-student families, and reduced fees at the Robert & Maureen Dunham Children’s Learning Center at the college.

“Our ability to apply a clear, consistent standard to the majority of colleges gives veterans a comprehensive view of which schools are striving to provide the best opportunities and conditions for our nation’s student veterans,” said Navy Reserve veteran Daniel Nichols, chief product officer for Victory Media.

Ratings were determined by combining colleges’ survey scores with assessments of institutions’ ability to meet thresholds for student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, persistence (degree advancement or transfer) and loan default rates for all students and, specifically, for student veterans.

Penn College will be featured with the other 2017 Military Friendly Schools in the annual Guide to Military Friendly Schools, special education issues of G.I. Jobs and Military Spouse Magazine, and online.
