Fourteen students recently graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Technology North Campus Outreach Practical Nursing Program.
The ceremony was held Thursday, Dec. 15, at the Wellsboro Area School District Administration Building, followed by a reception for family and friends.
The students selected Natalie O. DeLeonardis, former coordinator of the North Campus Outreach Practical Nursing Program, as speaker for the ceremony.
The Lyle Goodreau Award for Professionalism and Excellence in the nursing clinical area was presented to Kayre Piaquadio by Janie Hilfiger, president of Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital in Wellsboro.
The Academic Award for outstanding achievement in the classroom was presented to Marie Andrews by Julie Mansfield, coordinator of the North Campus Outreach Practical Nursing Program. Perfect-attendance awards were presented by Mansfield to Jami Andrews, Marie Andrews and Lori Cummings.
Mansfield recognized Jami N. Andrews, Marie L. Andrews and Kathy Simmons for their service to the nursing class as student representatives.
Certificates in practical nursing were presented by Mansfield; Tyanne L. Miller, instructional specialist for the nursing program, presented the pins to the students.
Graduates and their hometowns are Jami N. Andrews, of Knoxville; Marie L. Andrews, Charlene Jones, Emma L. McCleary and Kathy Simmons, all of Wellsboro; Sarah A. Blass, of Gaines; Lori A. Cummings, of Westfield; Adrienne M. Foresman and Haley A. Henry, of Liberty; Lori A. Laubenstein, of Waterville; Megan M. Legerlotz and Kayre Piaquadio, of Galeton; Melissa A. Lehman, of Harrison Valley; and Sheenah E. Pellicano, of Lawrenceville.
Graduates completed 1,504 clock hours of classroom and clinical instruction with clinical experiences obtained at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, The Green Home, Broad Acres Health and Rehabilitation Center, and other local facilities. They are eligible to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses and may be employed in hospitals, long-term care facilities, clinics, hospice, schools and other health care organizations.
Practical nursing classes at Penn College at Wellsboro begin the first week of January each year. Classrooms are in the Wellsboro Area School District Administration Building and Wellsboro Senior High School. The program is fully approved by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
