Wednesday’s event brought 103 students in various majors to the college, where they met in small groups to discuss how various members of a health care team would approach a specific case presented during the event, helping them to better understand the professional roles and perspectives of those they will be working with after they graduate. Sharon K. Waters, dean of health sciences at Penn College, was the Williamsport site coordinator and is a five-year member of The Northeastern/Central Pennsylvania Interprofessional Education Coalition. Participating at the Penn College site were students from Penn College, The Commonwealth Medical College, Wilkes University, Lock Haven University and Marywood University. Leading small-group discussions were professionals including administrators, faculty, directors, clinical coordinators, physicians and previous student participants. About 12 colleges and universities and the Northeast Pennsylvania Area Health Education Center are part of the coalition, which was founded by The Commonwealth Medical College in 2008.
