Penn College Again Designated 'Military Friendly School'

Pennsylvania College of Technology has been selected for inclusion in the 2011 list of "Military Friendly Schools" issued by G.I. Jobs.

The designation is reserved for the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools that do the most to "embrace America's veterans as students," according to the publication.

Among the criteria for listing as a Military Friendly School are: efforts to recruit and retain military and veteran students, results in recruiting military and veteran students, and academic accreditations.

Institutions on the Military Friendly Schools list also offer benefits to student veterans such as on-campus veterans programs, credit for service, military-spouse programs and more. G.I. Jobs polled more than 7,000 schools nationwide to compile the list.

For the Fall 2010 semester, Penn College has certified 316 student veterans to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

"Penn College continues to be a place that students who have served in the military choose to further their education," said Dennis L. Correll, associate dean for admissions and financial aid. "For Fall 2010, we will have 316 veteran students receiving educational benefits from the Post-9/11 GI Bill thorough our Financial Aid Office. This represents an increase of 33 percent from Fall 2009 and clearly illustrates to those interested in a hands-on education that Penn College is the right choice for them, and we are ready to help them utilize their educational benefits."
