Penn College Again Awarded ‘Military Friendly’ Designation

Pennsylvania College of Technology’s dedication to veterans has earned the institution “Military Friendly” status for the seventh consecutive year.
Victory Media, a veteran-owned business that compiles data-driven ratings to assist service members in choosing post-military education and career pursuits, today named Penn College a 2016 Military Friendly School.
The designation is awarded to the top colleges, universities, community colleges and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace military students by dedicating resources to ensure success in the classroom and postgraduation.
“Though we are proud to receive this honor again this year, we now consider this an ‘expectation,’” said Chester M. Beaver, the college’s veterans affairs coordinator. “We have developed a tradition of providing veterans with great service and will continue to build what is now a strong and integral part of our student body.”
A total of 367 veterans, including 83 new students, are enrolled at Penn College for the Fall 2015 semester.
Services and benefits available to veterans at the college include: designated point of contact for counseling needs and career services, separate student processing procedure with the assistance of veterans, in-state tuition cost, waiver of tuition deposit, outreach program for veteran-student families, and reduced fees at the Robert & Maureen Dunham Children’s Learning Center.
“Postsecondary institutions earning the 2016 Military Friendly School award have exceptionally strong programs for transitioning service members and spouses,” said Navy Reserve veteran Daniel Nichols, chief product officer for Victory Media. “Our Military Friendly Schools are truly aligning their military programs and services with employers to help students translate military experience, skills and training into successful careers after graduation.”
Institutions competed for “Military Friendly” status by completing 100 questions covering 10 categories, including military support on campus, graduation and employment outcomes and military spouse policies. Survey responses were scored against benchmarks across key indicators of success.
