"Bridging the Gap," a show featuring bridges constructed of paper and glue only, will run Thursday, March 16, through Wednesday, March 29, at The 202 Gallery in the Bush Campus Center at Pennsylvania College of Technology.

The bridges, which are entries in the ninth annual paper bridge contest at the College, are constructed primarily by students, though faculty and staff may enter the competition as well. Students in the Structural Principles course in the Architectural Technology program are required to submit a Category 1 bridge for the contest.

Category 1 bridges will be tested destructively for strength by hanging weights at the center of the bridge. The winner will be the entry registering the smallest ratio of bridge weight to the largest load carried. Destructive testing will take place from 10 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29.

Category 2 will feature bridges that will be judged entirely upon aesthetics, with the winner to be determined by popular vote.

Category 3 will feature bridge accessories: items such as jokes, visual gags, poetry etc. The winners will be determined by popular vote during all open gallery times and at the College's Open House festivities on Sunday, March 26. The general public may participate in the voting.

All bridges must be made from only construction paper and glue. Each bridge must span an 18-inch gap and have a road-deck width of at least 2 inches. Anything may be used as an accessory.

Entries are due by 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 15, at The 202 Gallery, located at the south end of the second floor at the Campus Center. All winners will be announced by Wednesday, March 29. The exhibition and testing are open to the public.

An opening reception will be held Thursday, March 16, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at The 202 Gallery. Viewing hours will be posted at the gallery.
