Packer Scholarships to Be Awarded to Tioga Countians Attending Penn College

Tioga County residents attending Pennsylvania College of Technology will be eligible to receive one of 20 $1,000 scholarships to be awarded in the 2000-01 academic year from the Horace B. Packer Foundation Scholarship fund.
Over the years, the Packer Foundation has provided generous support for Penn College and its North Campus through student scholarships and other grants for Tioga County residents attending Penn College. The foundation's trustees recognize the direct benefit that a state-of-the-art technical education provides to individual Penn College students and to the economic quality of life in the Tioga County area.
The College has identified more than 600 alumni residing in Tioga County, demonstrating that many students educated at Penn College remain in or return to Tioga County to work. This enables business and industry in the county to expand and offer more employment opportunities.
Carl Carson, president of the Horace B. Packer Foundation, said Penn College helps the foundation board fulfill its mission of serving business and industry, citing the examples of Truck-Lite, Ward Manufacturing and OSRAM Sylvania, all of which are major employers of Penn College graduates.
"This area is very fortunate to have a college such as Penn College for our youth to obtain hands-on training," Carson said.
To be eligible for one of the Horace B. Packer Foundation Scholarships, a student must:

Be enrolled in any certificate or degree program at Penn College and have a primary residence in Tioga County.

Be eligible for financial aid

Have at least a "B" average
Priority consideration will be given to those candidates who begin their studies at the North Campus and to those planning to live and work in Tioga County after completing their education.
The scholarship awards may be renewable, pending continued support from the Packer Foundation.
