Ornamental Horticulture Program Receives Corporate Donations

Two members of Pennsylvania College of Technology's Horticulture Advisory Committee made material donations while attending a recent accreditation-related function in the School of Natural Resources Management.
William D. Wells, a longtime committee member who retired as chairman and chief executive officer of W.D. Wells and Associates Inc., a West Grove landscape firm, provided a Japanese umbrella pine. The tree temporarily will be planted in a protected area of the Schneebeli Earth Science Center arboretum and moved to the campus' conifer garden in spring.
Adrian Karver, area manager of Ruppert Landscape in Toughkenamon, delivered several pallets of pavers for use by students in the school's ornamental horticulture majors. The students will use the pavers for campus projects, many of which they will design in class, or for demonstrations in which they can practice their skills on patios and walkways.
Wells and Karver were in the area to attend a dinner for the school's Professional Landcare Network accreditation team. The college's two-year ornamental horticulture: landscape technology major carries the prestigious PLANET accreditation, which offers scholarships to students, continuing-education opportunities for faculty, and a wealth of online and printed resource materials.
"We truly appreciate the support of our advisory board members in the guidance they give toward our program and the donations they provide for our labs," said Carl J. Bower, horticulture instructor.
