Off-Campus Shooting Prompts ‘Crime Alert’ From College Police

Penn College Police issued the following Crime Alert on Sunday, April 9:

Early this morning, at approximately 2:15 a.m., four Penn College students were passengers in a friend’s vehicle traveling on West Fourth Street at Campbell Street in the City of Williamsport. The vehicle was struck by a stray bullet from gunfire that erupted near that intersection. A bullet entered the passenger side of the vehicle striking the driver, a non-Penn College student, in the arm. Fortunately, he did not require medical treatment because the trajectory of the bullet had slowed after entering the door.

Three people were taken into custody shortly after the incident occurred and were being questioned by Williamsport Bureau of Police. Penn College Police are assisting with the investigation.

Penn College Student Affairs officials have met with the students who were passengers in the vehicle and are providing any necessary support. Should any other students not directly involved in this incident wish to speak with a counselor, they may contact the Counseling and Career Services Office at (570) 327-4765.

All students, faculty and staff should be alert for suspicious persons and potentially dangerous situations on and off campus. Penn College Police continue to work with Williamsport Bureau of Police and city officials to improve safety off campus. All crimes should be reported immediately to the police.

This information is being provided to keep you informed and aware of criminal activity so that you may take any necessary precautions for your personal safety.
