Nursing Faculty Member Earns Doctorate

A faculty member in the nursing program at Pennsylvania College of Technology recently received a Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Chatham University.
Dottie M. Mathers, associate professor of medical-surgical nursing, focused her doctoral studies on improving outcomes for patients with central venous access devices.
Mathers has been a faculty member at Penn College since 1991. She holds a Master of Nursing from Misericordia University, a Bachelor of Nursing from Eastern Washington University and an associate degree from Northampton Community College. She also maintains a per-diem staff position on a critical-care step-down unit at Susquehanna Health.
Mathers received the Excellence in Teaching Award from Penn College in May 2009. She has served on many committees both in the nursing program and collegewide, and is a member of the college's Academic Standards and Issues Committee.
She is a site visitor for the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission and an author and contributor to several nursing textbooks and student ancillaries. She is also a member of the Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society, the Pennsylvania State Nursing Association and the National League for Nursing.
