Ten students graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Technology North Campus Outreach Practical Nursing Program on Thursday, Dec. 18.

The ceremony was held at Wellsboro Area High School with a reception for family and friends afterward.

The students selected Amanda Wyble, LPN, a staff nurse at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital and alumna of the program, as speaker for the ceremony.

Deleonardis (coordinator of North Campus outreach services).The Lyle Goodreau Award for professionalism and excellence in the nursing clinical area was presented to Desiree McGovern, of Roaring Branch, by Janie Hilfiger, president of Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital in Wellsboro.

The North Campus Academic Award for outstanding achievement in the classroom was presented to Brooke Scott-Knecht, of Liberty, by Natalie O. DeLeonardis, coordinator of the North Campus Outreach Practical Nursing Program. Perfect attendance awards were presented by DeLeonardis to Ashley Graham, of Liberty, and Scott-Knecht.

DeLeonardis recognized Melissa Schrader and Chrysta Knowlton, both of Mansfield, and Scott-Knecht for their service to the nursing class as class representatives.

Certificates in practical nursing were presented by DeLeonardis; Debra A. Day, instructional specialist for the nursing program, presented the pins to the students.

The complete list of graduates and their hometowns is: Ashley L. Evans, Stephanie L. Gleason, Chrysta M. Knowlton, Melissa S. Schrader, and Julie A. Sherwood, Mansfield; Ashley M. Graham and Brooke C. Scott-Knecht, Liberty; Desiree S. McGovern, Roaring Branch; Casey L. Schneider, Gaines; and Ariane A. TaraBori, Galeton.

Graduates completed 1,504 clock hours of classroom and clinical instruction with clinical experiences obtained at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, The Green Home, Broad Acres Health and Rehabilitation Center, and other local facilities.

They are eligible to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN) and may be employed in hospitals, long-term care facilities, clinics, hospice, schools and other health care organizations.

Practical nursing classes at Penn College at Wellsboro begin the first week in January each year. Classrooms are located in the Wellsboro Area School District Administration Building and the Wellsboro Area High School.
