'Cat TalesBaseball Early in the week, the Wildcats dropped a doubleheader at Penn State Beaver, but bounced back at home Saturday to take two games off Penn State Wilkes-Barre. "We looked flat early. We needed a little home cooking," said coach Chris Howard of the week. In the first game against Penn State Wilkes-Barre, Christian Worth (Williamsport) got the mound win after Mark Shaffer (Hanover) had allowed just one unearned run in five innings. Devon Liquori (Hawley) had the game-winning hit in the seventh inning. Cody Lytle (Watsontown) and James Craft (York) each went 2-for-2 at the plate. Both of Craft's hits were doubles. In the nightcap, Ricky Cowher (Williamsport) pitched a five-inning no-hitter, striking out eight. He was backed offensively by Liquori, who went 2-for-3 with a home run, double and five runs batted in; Phil Woodring (Waynesboro) 2-for-3 with two runs scored; Lytle went 2-for-3, and Levi Bailey (Harrisburg) 3-for-3 with three runs scored.

Golf Penn College extended its four-season winning streak to 118-0 in action at The Links at Spring Church in Apollo. Freshman T.C. Reynolds (Muncy) shot a 78 and shared medalist honors with Zach Stull of Penn State Wilkes-Barre. As a team, Penn College shot a 324, 23 strokes better than second-place Penn State Mont Alto. With only Monday's match at the Irem Temple course before it plays in the PSUAC championships in mid-October, the Wildcats hold a 67-stroke lead for regular-season honors and have five players in the Top 10 for conference honors.

Women's Volleyball In taking three games off NCAA Division III Lincoln University, every Penn College player saw action, although the Lady Wildcats starters saw minimal time as the team remained undefeated.

Cross CountryAt the Luzerne Invitational, the Penn College men, led by Greg Kammerle (Willow Grove), who finished first in 30:28 over a 5-mile course, and Brian Gardner (Drexel Hill), who was second in 31:07, topped a five-team field, while the Penn College women were second among three teams. Tracey Brewbaker (Middletown) finished third in 24:44 over 3.1 miles.

Men's Soccer "Most of the guys were not ready. We weren't concentrating," coach Enrique Castillo said of his team's loss to Penn State Delaware. But, he noted, "We should be all right (Monday at Penn State Scranton)."

Women's Soccer Sarah Coulbourn (Elysburg) scored three goals and assisted on two others and Carrie Meyer (Ashland, Wis.) had three assists as Penn College beat Penn State Abington.

Team Tennis After winning more easily at home early in the week against Penn State Harrisburg, the Wildcats found it tougher on the road against the same team Saturday, but still won. Posting wins in both their singles and doubles matches Saturday for Penn College were Ray Plassio (Dillsburg), Brandon Stoner (Denver) and Angela Charcas (Deltona, Fla.).
