Nineteen Graduate From Leadership Program

Nineteen students at Pennsylvania College of Technology have completed the Spring 2000 Emerging College Leadership Advancement SerieS program for freshmen or first-year students.

The Emerging CLASS program provides a foundation in individual leadership techniques and group dynamics. Any freshman or first-year student who maintains a 2.0 grade-point average and who has a sincere interest in becoming a student leader can apply to become part of Emerging CLASS.

Students are selected on the basis of their experience, an application, an essay and a personal interview.

Emerging CLASS participants attend a weekend retreat at the beginning of the semester and weekly sessions that focus on leadership skills. To complete the program or "graduate," students must attend the retreat and at least 80 percent of the weekly meetings, complete at least 80 percent of the weekly journal assignments and fully participate in each activity.

The program is coordinated by a committee that includes Sharon Waters, director of Counseling and Career Services, chairwoman; Dr. James E. Fitzpatrick, dean of Student Affairs; Steven P. Jacobson, director of Residence Life; Kristen L. Bendon, assistant director of Student Activities; and Elliott J. Strickland Jr., director of Student Activities.
