A new scholarship at Pennsylvania College of Technology aims to assist students in the college's heavy construction equipment technology-technician major.

The Groff Tractor and Equipment Inc./CASE Corporation Scholarship announced this week will provide a $1,500 award to a Penn College student each year, beginning in the Fall 2005 semester.

"Groff Tractor and Equipment Inc. is pleased to offer this scholarship with Case Construction Equipment in an effort to encourage individuals to take the time and make the effort to educate themselves in an ever-changing industry," said Katie Reed, Groff's human resources manager. "It is very difficult to find talented service technicians in this day and age that have the necessary training and education already 'under their belt.'"

Groff Tractor and Equipment Inc. − on the Web here − is based in Mechanicsburg, with additional locations in Ephrata, Bellefonte, Valencia and New Stanton.

Students interested in applying for the Groff Tractor and Equipment Inc./CASE Corporation Scholarship must be enrolled full time in the second year of Penn College's Heavy Equipment Technology associate-degree program, and they must be eligible for other financial aid.

"We are pleased Groff Tractor and Equipment recognizes the quality of our technical programs," said Wayne R. Longbrake, the college's dean of natural resources management. "We appreciate their student support and look forward to developing a stronger relationship."
