New Professional Development Courses Among November Offerings

Five professional development courses – four of them new to the schedule – will be held in November by Workforce Development & Continuing Education at Pennsylvania College of Technology.



All of the classes will be taught on the college’s main campus in Williamsport; the cost for each is $195. Names, descriptions, dates and times are:

Enhancing Your Emotional Intelligence (new)
9 a.m. to noon Thursday, Nov. 10
Room 312 of the Klump Academic Center
Emotional intelligence has become a crucial component for building relationships in social environments. This course focuses on behaviors at work and on enhancing individual and organizational awareness of interpersonal factors that promote a balance between the rational and the emotional aspects of the workplace. Topics associated with this course include self-responsibility and management, interpersonal competence and relationship building.

Engaging in Teamwork (new)
1-4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10
Room 312 of the Klump Academic Center
This course reinforces basic team concepts and provides guidelines for engaging in teamwork. Areas of focus include the characteristics of effective teams; various types of teams; and roles, tools and methods useful for team success.

Embracing a Climate of Motivation and Engagement
9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Nov. 16
Room 134 of the Center for Business & Workforce Development
This course covers the basic concepts of workplace motivation, engagement and empowerment – and why they are of benefit. A focus is placed on how individuals contribute to creating a motivational climate and how to establish and communicate high standards and positive expectations.

Managing Multiple Priorities (new)
1-4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16
Room 134 of the Center for Business & Workforce Development
This course provides a framework and learning activities to increase awareness of the importance of using time effectively and insight into time-use patterns and habits. Guidelines provide direction for maintaining focus on priorities, reducing time-wasting activities, and developing a goal-based approach to managing time and multiple priorities.

Enhancing Workplace Relationships (new)
9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Nov. 30
Room 134 of the Center for Business & Workforce Development
This course focuses on examining and improving the quality of workplace relationships. The characteristics of high-quality work relationships are reviewed. An assessment of interpersonal style provides a framework for developing, understanding and building skills in working effectively with others. The course also provides guidelines for overcoming common difficulties in building such work relationships.
