New Choices/New Options Programming Funded for 2001-02

Pennsylvania College of Technology has been awarded $155,766 in state funding for 2001-02 to provide New Choices/New Options career-development opportunities for Lycoming, Tioga, Bradford and Potter counties.
The next two-week workshop will be offered beginning Monday, Oct. 15, at the College's North Campus near Wellsboro.
Workshops are offered at no cost to single parents, teen parents, displaced homemakers and anyone interested in exploring careers that are nontraditional for their gender. The ultimate goal of the program is to help people find employment that allows them to become self-sufficient.
Many participants move into training prior to finding employment. Others utilize the workshop's job-search component and placement assistance after completing the program.
The free sessions guide participants through career assessment, decision-making, goal-setting, basic computer-skills training and the various aspects of a successful job search.
Exposure to high technology is emphasized through visits to high-skill work sites, and the College's technical labs are available for hands-on learning experiences. The importance of technological skills in obtaining well-paying jobs that promote self-sufficiency is underscored throughout.
Child-care funding assistance is available to participants. Additionally, transportation funding is available, permitting participants from Potter and Bradford counties to attend the sessions at the North Campus. Funding assistance is also available for tuition, books and supplies for those who complete the program and choose to enroll in training programs to support their employment goals.
