Most Penn College Teams Have Rough Week

Other than a women's volleyball win and second-place finish by the golf team, it was a tough week for Pennsylvania College of Technology fall sports teams as the men's and women's soccer squads each went 0-2 and the coed tennis team 0-1.

Flashback GolfHosting its own Penn State University Athletic Conference invitational on Monday at White Deer, Penn College finished second in a four-team field with a 328. Penn State Mont Alto captured the event with a 320. Chad Vuocolo, of Lock Haven, led Wildcat players with a 79.

Freshman Corey Teeple, of Lake Ariel, was named the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Coed Golf Player of the Week for the period ending Sept. 19. In his collegiate debut Sept. 15, Teeple shot a 74 to help the Wildcats win the Penn State Mont Alto Invitational in their season opener.

Men's SoccerStepping up against NCAA Division III Wilkes University on Tuesday, the Wildcats fell, 1-0. Penn College outshot Wilkes, 16-14, but couldn't convert.

On Thursday against Division III Albright College, Penn College lost, 4-1. Chris Brennan, of New Hope, scored the lone Wildcat goal as the team's record went to 3-3-2 overall.

In the Week 2 United States Collegiate Athletic Association Coaches' Poll, the Wildcats moved up a notch to No. 6.

Women's SoccerFacing NCAA Division III Misericordia University on Tuesday, the Lady Wildcats lost, 12-0. Misericordia outshot Penn College, 29-1.

On Thursday against another NCAA Division III foe, Penn College fell, 8-0, to Albright College and dropped to 0-4-2 overall.

Team TennisIn their only match of the week, the Wildcats lost at Penn State Brandywine, 8-1, on Saturday. Eric Isherwood, of Pocomoke, Md., was the lone winner with a 7-5, 6-4 victory at men's No. 4 singles as the team went to 1-1 in the PSUAC and overall.

Women's VolleyballOn Thursday, Lyndsey Smith, of Mechanicsburg, notched 23 assists and six digs to help lead Penn College past Penn State DuBois, 25-12, 25-19, 25-4, as it improved to 4-0 in the PSUAC and 7-6 overall. Melissa Lake, of Winburne, led the team with six kills and Kelly Hebert, of Wellsboro, added five kills, three digs and a block.

In the most recent USCAA Coaches' Poll, Penn College was ranked No. 18, down from No. 13.
