More than 120 welcomed into honor societies' Penn College chapters

Pennsylvania College of Technology recently held induction ceremonies in the Klump Academic Center Auditorium for its four- and two-year honor society chapters, among the institution’s traditional end-of-semester activities in celebration of student accomplishment.

President Davie Jane Gilmour offered remarks during both of the April 9 ceremonies, and was joined at each by Joanna K. Flynn, dean of curriculum and instruction.

Ninety-six students were welcomed to the college’s Beta Epsilon Upsilon Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, an international honor society for students in two-year majors. Each semester, membership invitations are extended to associate-degree students who have completed at least 12 hours of coursework in which they have a GPA of 3.5.

The speaker for the 11 a.m. ceremony was chapter President Bailey E. Rowland, a nursing student from Williamsport. Other chapter officers are Vice President Krystle Jean Richardson, of Cogan Station, enrolled in human services & restorative justice; Devin S. Watson, of Shippensburg, electronics & computer engineering technology, treasurer; and Madison L. Gift, Waynesboro, applied health studies: occupational therapy assistant concentration, secretary.

Faculty advisers Karen L. Avery, instructor of biology, and Joe Loehr, associate professor of mass media communication/English-composition, oversaw the acceptance of these new PTK members:

Faculty co-sponsors Marc E. Bridgens, associate professor of HVAC technology, and Tammy A. Miller, instructor of biology, presided over the 1:30 p.m. induction of 26 students to the Pennsylvania Xi Chapter of Alpha Chi, The honor society is open to all bachelor-degree majors and is limited to the top 10 percent of junior and senior classes.
