Students hard at work in last year's 'Monster Hut' competition. The second annual "Monster Hut" competition is scheduled to take place this weekend. Four teams, each consisting of six students anda faculty adviser, will have from Friday afternoon until Sunday afternoon to build a pavilion on the grounds of one of Penn College's Residence Hall complexes.

Teams may begin work at 3 p.m. Friday; final judging will occur at 3 p.m. Sunday. The judging will be followed by an awards reception in the Professional Development Center Courtyard at 3:30 p.m.

As in last year's competition, this year's event promises to be a great learning experience for the students involved and will make a lasting contribution to the Penn College campus that will be used by many future generations of students.

"Last year's competition was a great hands-on experience for the students, as individuals, and as a team," said student Ben Copenhaver, one of last year's competitors. "With the time constraints of the competition, and the craftsmanship which was demanded of each person, each team had to follow a strategic plan in the hopes of winning the favor of the judges. The competition was fun for all who were involved, and it proved to be a learning experience for the students. This was a determining factor in signing up for the competition again this year."

Kohl Building Products, locally in Montoursville, will donate prizes for the first-place team (six $300 gift certificates); Lezzer Lumber in Pennsdale will provide prizes for the second-placeentry (six $150 gift certificates); and East End Lumber in Williamport, Erie Building Supply in Linden and Lewis Lumber in Picture Rocks each will donate two prizes for the fourth-place team ($75 gift certificates).
