A member of the Pennsylvania College of Technology Foundation Board of Directors and his wife have established a scholarship fund at the college in memory of his late sister.
George E. “Herman” Logue Jr. and his wife, Molly, recently presented the college with a gift to establish the Jane E. Logue Choate Memorial Health Science Scholarship as an endowed scholarship fund. The fund will initially generate awards of $1,000 annually and will support Penn College students in perpetuity.
Criteria for selecting the scholarship recipients includes preference for residents of Lycoming County who are enrolled as full-time or part-time students with at least two semesters completed in any major in the college’s School of Health Sciences.
Jane Elizabeth Logue Choate was the oldest of 10 children born to George E. Logue Sr., ’45, and Elizabeth M. Logue. She passed away in March at the age of 57 from complications of multiple sclerosis.
“Jane was a mentor to her younger brothers and sisters, a talented homemaker, seamstress and interior decorator,” said Herman Logue. “Jane was a graduate of The Pennsylvania State University with a degree in business administration; she married and had three children. She was diagnosed with MS at the age of 23.Despite this debilitating disease, Jane kept a positive attitude.”
Herman Logue said he and his wife want the scholarship to benefit students entering health professions – “the same professions that helped make Jane’s daily tasks achievable.”
The first award from the Jane E. Logue Choate Memorial Health Science Scholarship will be made to a student in the Fall 2012 semester.
“Herm and Molly have been longtime friends and supporters of Penn College,” said Robb Dietrich, executive director of the Penn College Foundation. “We’re honored that they have chosen to memorialize Jane by establishing this scholarship. It will be a lasting legacy that will benefit students for years to come.”
