The Penn College Martial Arts Club hosted one of the most successful training camps in the history of the East Coast Collegiate Karate Union on Saturday and Sunday, as representatives from 10 schools came together for a weekend of intensive training and a Goodwill Tournament in the college's Field House. Joining Penn College students were more than 60 participants from Brown University, Salve Regina College, The University of Rochester, The Pennsylvania State University, Temple University, Drexel University, West Chester University, The College of William and Mary, and the University of Virginia. A dozen instructors from the various clubs were on hand to make this a great event, organizers said, and an exhausted but proud contingent from the Penn College club participated – Mathew D. Johnson, Jonathan E. Harris, Cory L. Buckles, Kyle M. Zechman, Jeremy P. Hansen, Jonell A. Murray and Alexander J. Hilton. At Sunday’s tournament, four of them placed in their divisions: Hilton finished first in kumite (sparring), Hansen and Murray tied for third in the same event, and Johnson finished third in kumite in the intermediate division. The next collegiate tournament for the club is in March at The College of William and Mary.
