‘Cat TalesBaseball In whipping up on Penn State Harrisburg, Matt Francis (Williamsport) went 4-for-6 at the plate with six runs batted in to spark a 19-hit attack. Among the others with multiple hits were Ryan Stuart (Emporium), 2-for-2 with a two-run home run; James Woodring (Waynesboro), 3-for-4 with three RBI; Phil Woodring (Waynesboro), 2-for-3 with two doubles, and Mike Leone (Philadelphia) 2-for-2 with an RBI. On the mound in the game, four Wildcat pitchers combined for 16 strikeouts, with Christian Worth (Williamsport) leading the way with 11 strikeouts.

Leading hitters in a doubleheader sweep of Penn State New Kensington were Chad Maidenford (Pine Grove), who was 5-for-7; Dave Miller (Pen Argyl) and Phil Woodring, who both were 4-for-7; and James Woodring, who was 4-for-9.

Men’s Soccer The Wildcats couldn’t get it going against Northampton, but against Penn State Wilkes-Barre Jochen Stein (Germany), Stephen Lis (West Perry) and Brent McElrath (Mercer) scored two goals each.

Women’s Volleyball Great all-around play by Natalie Plavi (Elderton), including perfect serving, sparked the Lady Wildcats’ third-game win against Penn State Fayette, but it wasn’t enough as they dropped three other closely contested games.

GolfPenn College extended its three-season winning streak to 85 consecutive matches when it finished first in a six-team tournament at Wilkes-Barre. The Wildcats finished with 315 points while second-place Penn State Mont Alto had 330. Leading individuals for Penn College were Matt Haile (Sunbury) and Ryan Nornhold (Enola) who each shot 77.

Cross Country The Bloomsburg Invitational was canceled, so Penn College went to La Plume and competed in the Keystone Invitational instead. Tom Lambert (Bangor) led the Wildcat men with a ninth-place finish and Lindsey Edwards led the Lady Wildcats with a 27th-place finish. In men’s team competition, Penn College was fourth among five teams and Wildcat coach Mike Paulhamus said that the men showed “marked improvement” over last week’s opener.
