John Deere Foundation Establishes Scholarship for Welding Students

One of the world's most recognizable names in agricultural and heavy construction equipment is providing scholarship opportunities for welding students at Pennsylvania College of Technology.

Penn College's Corporate Relations Office recently finalized an agreement with the John Deere Foundation that will result in four scholarship awards of $3,000 each for students in the college's welding and fabrication engineering technology bachelor-degree major or the welding technology associate-degree major.

A successful applicant for the John Deere Foundation Scholarship must be accepted into one of the two welding majors as a full-time student with at least two remaining semesters of study with a minimum grade-point average of 3.0 and must be eligible for permanent employment in the United States at the time of graduation.

Representatives of John Deere attended Penn College's Career Fair for the first time in March to recruit new employees and interns for their manufacturing facilities.

"We are eager to develop this partnership with Penn College and look forward to recruiting weld engineering students for our intern and new college graduate opportunities," said Lynn Toney, manager of college recruiting for John Deere.

"Penn College is extremely grateful for the support of our students through this new scholarship funding from the John Deere Foundation," said Debra M. Miller, director of corporate relations at Penn College. "I look forward to continuing to build a strong partnership between John Deere and Penn College."
