Job Search Workshop Set in Galeton

The Potter County Education Council and Pennsylvania College of Technology's North Campus are teaming up to bring New Choices/New Options Career Development Services to Potter County. A job-search workshop will be held at the new satellite office of the Potter County Education Council (formerly the Widmann's building) on Main Street in Galeton from Oct. 19 through Nov. 13.
If you are a single parent (male or female), a homemaker who has worked mainly in the home and doesn't know where to start to find a job, a teen parent, or any individual who is interested in exploring nontraditional (by gender) careers, you are invited to attend the free workshops in Galeton.
The workshops will meet four days a week, Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. For those interested in applying or for more information, contact Linda Williams at Penn College in Wellsboro, (570) 724-7703, or the Potter County Educational Council at (814) 274-6358.
Participants will take a career assessment, which will help them choose careers to explore. With guidance, each person will research the careers identified and will learn library skills to help them find information on available training, salaries, the future of certain jobs and general job descriptions.
Another portion of the workshop will focus on Job Search Skills. Each participant will develop a resume, cover letter and application package and will have the opportunity to learn and practice good interviewing skills. Job-market information will be shared and discussed, and participants will learn where to look for jobs.
As well, Life skills that support careers will be covered in workshops on "How to Deal With Difficult People," "Coping with Stress," decision-making skills and goal-setting.
A young woman named Lynn recently said this about the workshop: "I liked the way the workshops made me take stock of who I am and to really think about my future. I now have a direction and a future. I've made new goals. I feel more confident, less scared and, most of all, I know what I want."
Another workshop participant, Gary, commented: "I think the workshop is great. I learned a lot about myself and what kind of career I'm best suited for, taking into consideration my interests and abilities. This class has made me better prepared to go out and get the job I really want."
