A local construction company has established a scholarship at Pennsylvania College of Technology.

Williamsport-based J&M Construction Specialty Inc. will provide an annual award of $2,000 beginning in Spring 2010. The company has committed to provide the scholarship for three years.

The J&M Construction Specialty Scholarship targets students pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree from the School of Construction and Design Technologies. Preference will be given to applicants who are full-time students with a home residence in Pennsylvania.

"We're pleased to be able to provide some financial assistance to students pursuing their education at Penn College," said Robert Shearer, president of J&M Construction Specialty Inc. "We believe strongly in the quality of education Penn College provides and are happy to partner with them by establishing this scholarship."

"Penn College is extremely grateful to J&M Construction Specialty for establishing this scholarship," said Robb Dietrich, executive director of the Penn College Foundation. "Now, more than ever, scholarship support is critical to ensure that a student's opportunity to pursue his or her education is not limited by financial challenges."

J&M Construction Specialty Inc. is a general-construction firm specializing in framing and drywall work. It employs approximately 20 people.

Penn College is a special mission affiliate of The Pennsylvania State University, committed to applied technology education. With more than 6,500 students enrolled in bachelor-degree, associate-degree and certificate majors, the college has the second-largest enrollment in the Penn State system.
