Jim CunninghamThe rapid implementation of an employee intranet at Pennsylvania College of Technology was the topic of a recent presentation at the EDUCAUSE 2008 Mid-Atlantic Regional conference held Jan. 15-17 in Baltimore.

Jim Cunningham, the college's vice president for information technology, was a co-presenter (with Jill M. Forrester, director of institutional systems and strategies at Dickinson College) of "365 Days to a Portal Solution."

Dickinson and Penn College recently implemented portals personalized gateways to their respective institutions' internal information-sharing networks in less than a year. The joint presentation described the high-level planning and management of such fast-track portal initiatives, along with a review of the decisions, trade-offs and lessons learned.

"The "˜myPCT' employee portal provided a "˜one-stop shopping' information resource for college employees and enhances the ability of departments, teams and committees to achieve their goals through a powerful set of communication and collaboration tools," Cunningham said.

His areas of responsibility include academic computing, administrative computing, telecommunications, campus network, media services and document services. A member of the college's senior management team, he is responsible for strategic and long-range planning for all IT-related initiatives.

Cunningham holds a bachelor's degree in technology management from Penn College and an associate degree in computer science from Williamsport Area Community College, its predecessor institution.
