Incoming Freshman Receives Scholarship From National SME Education Foundation

Michael V. Knorr, an incoming freshman enrolled for the fall semester at Pennsylvania College of Technology, has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.
Knorr, of Gilberton, is enrolled in the Computer-Aided Drafting Technology associate-degree program. He is one of two students nationally to receive the competitively awarded Community College Scholarship, which is supported by the Wayne Kay Scholarship Fund at the SME Education Foundation. Penn College students have received SME scholarships the past five years.
To be eligible for the scholarships, students must be full-time undergraduates enrolled in a degree program in manufacturing or a closely related field and must seek a career in manufacturing engineering or technology. The applicants must be incoming freshmen (or sophomores with fewer than 60 credits) with a minimum grade-point average of 3.5.
"In support of a strong manufacturing base for the future, SME is working to better prepare tomorrow's practitioners to meet the accelerated technical and business needs of the 21st century," said Randy Maiers, director of SME's Education Foundation. "Through our scholarship programs, SME is encouraging some of the best and brightest students to choose a career in manufacturing."
