In-Plant Printing Honored for Production of Student Activities Poster

A poster that strikingly made use of Pennsylvania College of Technology's dimensional-printing capability has brought more national recognition to the institution's Printing and Document Services operation.
Penn College’s in-house department shared third-place honors in a competition sponsored by In-Plant Graphics and the In-Plant Printing and Mailing Association, which reviewed nearly 500 entries in 34 categories.
The bronze award recognizes promotional material for Student Activities' February bus trip to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., that was among 30 projects judged in the "Digital Poster" category.
The plaque, officially presented during the recent IPMA conference in San Mateo, Calif., is the college's second in three years. In 2011, Printing and Document Services won a silver award for a hybrid offset/digital publication prepared for The Gallery at Penn College.
This year's poster was designed by Jennifer A. George, student affairs information specialist, who incorporated raised text and imagery to dramatic effect: Water drops on flower petals, as well as Holocaust victims' names on a commemorative list in the background, were tactilely printed in a shiny, clear ink that gave the finished project a unique look and feel.
The winning poster was supervised by Raymond J. Fischer Jr., manager of document services, and printed by Jody L. Fausey, pressroom production specialist, on the digital Kodak NexPress 2100.
Other winners in the non-offset category were Nestle Purina PetCare, first place for a product-relaunch poster; New York state’s Excellus Blue Cross & Blue Shield, second place for a Hawaiian luau banner; and the University of North Texas, which was a bronze co-winner for a track-and-field poster.
