Illinois Still-Life Artist to Present Works Nov. 5 at 202 Gallery

David I. Dooley, an artist and educator for more than 30 years, will present a one-time exhibition of his works on Monday, Nov. 5, at Pennsylvania College of Technology's 202 Gallery.

Dooley's works may be viewed from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the gallery, located on the second floor of the Alvin C. Bush Campus Center at Penn College. Earlier in the day, he will present a demonstration for art students.

Born in Olney, Ill., Dooley received bachelor's and master's degrees from Eastern Illinois University, Charleston, Ill. He also studied painting under Billy Morrow Jackson at the University of Illinois and Life Drawing at the American Academy of Art, Chicago.

Dooley had been an illustrator for Prairie Press Publishing Co. while working on his degree. Impressed by Dooley's work, owner-publisher Walter Shirley Tremble published a book of his drawings entitled, "Isolated in the Absurd."

Dooley has been a professor of commercial art at Vincennes University in Indiana for more than 18 years. His work has been widely published in magazines, including "Step by Step Graphics," "American Artist" and "The Artist's Magazine."

Dooley's step-by-step lessons on drawing metal and glass appeared in a book published by Walter Foster, ("Color Pencil Basics"); in a book by Sandra Angelo, ("Special Effects with Colored Pencils"); in a video produced by "Discover Art;" and in a nationally syndicated television show, "Creative Living."

His work has won numerous local, regional and national awards including Realism Today, the Border to Border National Drawing Competition, Masters of the Colored Pencil Show, "The Artist's Magazine's" Still Life Competition and the Lana International Water Media Competition. His works can be found in many prestigious private and corporate collections nationwide.

Dooley currently travels the country, teaching a variety of workshops on colored-pencil techniques. In addition, he has been a featured speaker at many art events nationwide.
