HVAC Students Awarded Scholarships From National Association

Two heating, ventilation and air conditioning students at Pennsylvania College of Technology have been awarded $2,000 scholarships from the National Association of Oil Heating Service Managers.
Shawn A. Wasielewski, of Easton, majoring in building automation technology-HVAC, and Mark P. Hunsicker, an HVAC technology student from Lansdale, were among seven scholarship recipients honored at NAOHSM's 53rd annual convention and trade show held May 14-18 at the Marriott Hartford Hotel in Hartford, Conn.
Wasielewski is employed at Apollo Unlimited, owned by his father, Kevin, who is a member of the association's Lehigh Valley Chapter. Last year, Shawn Wasielewski competed in the refrigeration category at the World SkillsUSA competition in Finland, having worked his way through local, state, national and pre-international competition as a student at the Career Institute of Technology in Easton.
Hunsicker, who comes to Penn College this fall from North Montco Career Vocational School in Lansdale, most recently was an apprentice at Carney Plumbing, Heating and Cooling, Hatfield. After his graduation from college, he hopes to design heating and air-conditioning systems for schools, offices, hospitals and commercial buildings.
The scholarships are partially funded through an annual golf tournament held during the convention. Thanks to support from the association's 2005 industry sponsors, R.W. Beckett and Thermo Pride, and others, more than $6,000 was raised this year.
Hunsicker's award was presented by Delavan Spray Technologies, a worldwide leader in spray nozzles for combustion applications from domestic heating to commercial boilers.
To be a scholarship candidate, students were required to write a 500-word essay on the topic, "What are your goals and why do you wish to better yourself within the oil heating industry?"
