While the Pennsylvania College of Technology men's and women's basketball teams each went 1-1 last week, the men's volleyball and coed archery teams were preparing for their openers this weekend.

Men's Basketball Solid defensive play in the second half at Penn State Scranton Wednesday paid off with a 72-66 win. Leroy Joiner (Williamsport) scored 21 points, Greg Solyak (Lititz) scored 19 points and Nico Italiani (Easton) added 15 for Penn College.

On the road Saturday at Penn State Wilkes-Barre, the Wildcats lost, 64-62, and fell a half-game behind leading Wilkes-Barre in the Penn State University Athletic Conference North Division standings. Joiner and Solyak each scored 20 points in the loss that dropped the team to 6-8 overall and 5-2 in the PSUAC.

Earlier in the week, Joiner was honored for the second time this season as the United States Collegiate Athletic Conference Division II Co-Player of the Week for the period ending Jan. 16 with averages of 22.5 points and 11.5 rebounds in two games.

In the most recent USCAA Coaches Poll, the Wildcats are No. 17. On Monday, Penn College is at NCAA Division III Wilkes University and on Wednesday at DIII King's College.

Women's Basketball On Saturday at Penn State Wilkes-Barre, the Penn College women fell, 62-57, and dropped to 7-6 overall and 5-2 in the PSUAC. They still maintain a two-game edge in the PSUAC North Division over Wilkes-Barre, thanks in part to a forfeit win over Penn State Scranton Wednesday. Kierstin Steer (South Williamsport) scored 18 points in the loss.

On Monday, the Wildcats are at NCAA Division III Elmira (N.Y.) College.
