Manuevering pipes Mechanical 'fingers' lift an egg Playing 'hoops' via skid steer Penn College students placed second in the annual Heavy Equipment Rodeo held at the Schneebeli Earth Science Center during the college's Oct. 26 Open House. The team from Central Pennsylvania Institute of Science and Technology took first place; Cayuga-Onondaga (N.Y.) Board of Cooperative Education Services finished third. A total of 59 students competed in five events at the Allenwood campus. Shea O. Reiley, of Williamsport, majoring in heavy construction equipment technology: operator emphasis at Penn College, took home $100 as first-place winner in the Egg Drop event sponsored by Double A Stables. CPI's Clayton Weight won a $1,500 Penn College scholarship as the High Overall Operator and $100 in the Softball event sponsored by Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc. Michael Hearn, also from CPI, won $100 each in American Infrastructure's Pipe Pick event and in the Wayne Township Landfill's Soccer Ball event. He also won the Skid Steer competition. Judges included representatives from Hawbaker, the Wayne Township and Lycoming County landfills, Steinbacher Enterprises Inc., Cleveland Brothers, and 5 Star John Deere. Organizers included Budd L. Greevy, Christopher S. Weaver and Matthew E. Bell, instructors of diesel equipment technology; and Ryan W. Peck, lab assistant for diesel equipment technology. Greevy and Weaver also are advisers for the Service and Operation of Heavy Equipment Association, of which Reiley is president.
