Heating Season’s Arrival Prompts Thermostat Reminder

It is that time of year again, when our heating systems are calling to us, “Turn me on.” This is a perfect time to check the program on your thermostat, Penn College’s Energy Conservation Subcommittee reminds. Does it still reflect the habits of the occupants? The goal is to set the thermostat to 10 degrees lower when the house is regularly vacant, as well as when all are sleeping. If you don’t have a programmable thermostat, it is a great time to buy and install one. The subcommittee provides regular “Green Tips” via PCToday; email Chairman Richard C. Taylor, associate professor of plumbing and heating, with any ideas for future energy-saving advice.
