Gilmour Named Vice Chair of NEAC’s President’s Council

Pennsylvania College of Technology President Davie Jane Gilmour has been appointed vice chair of President’s Council for the North Eastern Athletic Conference.
A dozen of Penn College’s athletic teams compete in the NEAC, and Gilmour’s work with the council has included service on its committees for strategic planning and sportsmanship. She will serve for two years as vice chair before assuming the role of council chair in July 2019.
Keith Hillkirk, chancellor for Penn State Berks, completed a two-year term as chair of NEAC’s President’s Council on June 20. David E. Rogers, president of Morrisville State College in New York, has succeeded him as chair.
The NEAC consists of 14 Division III institutions in New York; Pennsylvania; New Jersey; and Washington, D.C.
“Dr. Gilmour has quickly become an engaged member of the NEAC, working on numerous committees such as the Strategic Planning Committee and the Sportsmanship Committee,” said Candice Murray, NEAC commissioner. “She brings a level of enthusiasm and commitment needed to continue moving the NEAC forward.”
Penn College recently received notification from the NCAA that its Wildcat Athletics teams will compete as full members of Division III when students return this fall, making them eligible for national championships. The college has competed in the NEAC since 2014-15 as a provisional member of Division III.
“I am honored to serve in this capacity with the NEAC, and I look forward to working with the other members of the leadership team,” Gilmour said. “This is an exciting time for Penn College Athletics. Student-athletes play a significant role on our campus, as I know they do at the other NEAC schools. I hope my contributions as vice chair of President’s Council will help to enhance the athletics experience for students at all of the conference’s member institutions.”
This is not Gilmour’s first foray into athletics leadership. She will complete a five-year term as chairman of the Little League International Board of Directors in November.
Two others from Penn College serve on the NEAC’s Executive Committee: Elliott Strickland, vice president for student affairs, and Tom Zimmerman, a member of the psychology faculty and the faculty athletic representative.
Penn College student-athletes participate in 15 intercollegiate sports. Twelve of the college's 15 intercollegiate athletic teams participate in the NEAC: men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s cross country, women’s volleyball, men’s golf, baseball, and softball.
The college’s wrestling team competes at the Division III level as an independent; the men’s and women’s archery team has no affiliation with the NCAA and competes in USA Archery.
