Gilmour elected vice chair of MSCHE, Executive Committee

Pennsylvania College of Technology President Davie Jane Gilmour has been named vice chair for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education – a nonprofit association performing peer evaluation and accreditation of public and private universities and colleges – and its Executive Committee.
Middle States serves higher education institutions in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and other geographic areas in which the Commission conducts accrediting activities.
The Executive Committee consists of seven members elected annually by the Commission, including officers. The Executive Committee has authority to act on behalf of the Commission as necessary between meetings to continue operations of the corporation, as well as to take action on accreditation and institutional membership. It includes administrative, faculty and public representatives.
Gilmour, who served on the Executive Committee in 2019, was elected vice chair for the MSCHE and the Executive Committee for 2020. She returned to the Commission in 2019 after having previously served from 2012-17. She served on the Executive Committee in 2017 and was chair of the Committee on Follow-Up Activities and Candidate Institutions. She also served on the MSCHE Rebranding Committee that was charged with creating a new messaging platform for the Commission. She has been president of Penn College, a special mission affiliate of Penn State, since 1998.
Elected as chair of the MSCHE and its Executive Committee for 2020 was James Sunser, president of SUNY Genesee Community College; he served as vice chair in 2019. Sunser, who is in his second term on the Commission, has served as president and chief executive officer of Genesee Community College since August 2011.
David E. Hollowell will once again serve as treasurer of the Commission and Executive Committee in 2020. He retired from the University of Delaware in 2008 and is executive vice president and treasurer emeritus. He served on the committee charged with updating the standards for accreditation. Hollowell represented MSCHE as a member of the Board of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools from 2000-07.
Alan D. Mathios was elected secretary of the Commission and Executive Committee for 2020. He began his second term as a commissioner in 2018; he joined the Executive Committee in 2019. A professor in the Department of Policy Analysis and Management in the College of Human Ecology at Cornell University, Mathios has co-chaired Cornell’s Middle States Self-Study Accreditation Committee. On behalf of MSCHE, he has served as a member of an evaluation team and chaired or co-chaired three evaluation teams.
