"CAT continues to show a strong commitment to our students and their education," said Mary A. Sullivan, dean of natural resources management. "These are tough times for some of our students and their families, and the opportunities CAT creates through sponsorships, scholarships, internships and employment are very much appreciated."

The long-standing relationship is evident in two dealer awards presented in conjunction with that contribution: Alban Tractor Co. Inc., Baltimore, and Ransome CAT, Bensalem, were given plaques acknowledging "15 years of participation in the Caterpillar Excellence Fund grant to provide student scholarships, instructional materials, technical equipment, curriculum development and faculty development funds in support of the diesel equipment technology programs."

Alban and Ransome, along with Cleveland Brothers Equipment Co. Inc., of Baltimore, combined to donate $56,000 to help students in the diesel technology and heavy construction equipment technology majors at the college's Earth Science Center near Allenwood and on-site power generation students taught there and in the School of Construction and Design Technologies on the main campus in Williamsport.

A total of $56,000 in matching funds was provided through the Caterpillar Excellence Fund, comprising the Caterpillar Foundation, those three dealers and H.O. Penn Machinery Inc., Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

The checks which bring to more than $1.86 million the total received since Fall 1994 were delivered during a Heavy Construction Caterpillar Equipment Emphasis Advisory Committee meeting in the college's Thompson Professional Development Center, held again this year on the day before the dealers' participation in the fall Career Fair.
